I’m Carlie, your host of Talk Digi To Me 101. Today we’re jumping into the unicorn of Digital Marketing…SEO.

VOX: Search Engine Optimisation

VOX: Of course I’ve heard of SEO, but …is it really a thing?

In today’s digital world, if your business isn’t found online, it doesn’t exist. That’s why you need search engine optimization or SEO.

When we work with SEO, we give your website the fundamentals it needs in order for it to appear in online searches, in front of your potential customers.

We improve your company’s digital footprint so that more customers become aware of your products and services, trust in them, and convert into leads or sales.

And yes, it’s really a thing. Ok there’s a lot to go over today AND I’ve got a giveaway for YOU as well at the end, so listen good!

VOX: Websites

VOX: I have a brand new website, so I don’t need SEO.

SFX: Wrong

Websites are not born with good SEO. Whether your website is new or old, you need a Search Engine Optimisation strategy.

A great time to incorporate SEO is while you are building your site, because we can work with the web developer and the marketing team to ensure the content of the site is optimised.

But, it doesn’t matter if your website is 10 years old or 10 days old, you can still start implementing an SEO strategy today.

VOX: 5 Factors of an SEO Strategy

VOX: I know what SEO is. It’s keyword research.

SFX: Wrong

To have a successful SEO strategy, we start with keyword research but we really need to see 5 key pillars. Ready?

1.     Keywords. Keyword research is a critical first step to your SEO strategy. During this process, we’ll choose the words and phrases that represent your business and make sure they are correctly integrated into your website.

2.     On page optimisation. This is where your keywords are strategically placed in the pages of your site. Elements of on page optimisation include your meta descriptions, headers, title tags and URLS – essentially, the pieces of SEO that live ON your web pages.

3.     Off page optimisation. This refers to activity online that boosts your SEO, but is not on YOUR website. For example, a food blogger posts a link to your website on their home page. That’s a backlink.

4.     Site health. Just like a person gets a checkup from a doctor, we test the health of your site. Is it loading fast enough? Are there technical glitches that need correction? Are there broken links?

5.     Local SEO. Finally – managing your presence in online forums or your google business profile is Local SEO. An important part of this is getting reviews online. They build trust, and SEO at the same time.

Ok so those were the 5 key pillars of a successful SEO strategy – now I have a freebie for you. So, in closing, consider this: the majority of online experiences start with a search engine like google. Whether consumers are looking for “car insurance packages” or “the best catamaran cruise”, their journey begins with a search query. And this is especially true if you have a business in tourism or hospitality category, where your customers are overseas, trying to find information on what to do here in Barbados.

Good SEO practices make the difference between you being ranked above your competitors, and not even being ranked at all.

This means optimizing your website for search engines can substantially increase your visibility and bring more traffic your way.

So, if you are in hospitality, if you are in tourism, if your business has a really high educational component to it, if you need more awareness and need more people to find you, if you’re in a very competitive field, or you just want digital marketing excellence, let’s develop an SEO strategy catered to you.
